If you're not from Pittsburgh, you're going to think it sounds gross. But trust me, if you try it, you'll probably like it. It's Pittsburgh's famous Primanti Brothers sandwich.
You pick your meat, and Primanti's adds the provolone cheese, tomato, french fries and cole slaw, all between two thick slices of Italian bread. Yeah, that's right: french fries and cole slaw on your sandwich. (The cole slaw's a sweet & sour slaw..no creamy mayo. But if you're not sure, order the slaw on the side so you can decide for yourself.) The biggest challenge is figuring out how to fit it in your mouth (my approach: squeeze it tight and lean over the table. . .enjoy the fries that fall out with a bit of Ranch dressing or ketchup).
Sure, it's not exactly healthy dining. It's not supposed to be. Primanti's is Pittsburgh's version of the Philly Cheese Steak. And here in Pittsburgh, we love it. Visit one of us, and we'll make sure you try one.
So Pittsburghers, what's your favorite Primanti's sandwich? And non-Pittsburghers, what do you think? Could we convince you to try one?
